Dr Richard Burgess

Albany Creek Location

Originally from the Sunshine Coast, I’ve been in family and pet chiropractic practices around Queensland and internationally in New Zealand. Prior to becoming a chiropractor, I was an international flight attendant with Virgin where my lust for travel and other cultures began; I have had the absolute luck to visit well over sixty countries.

Travel aside, I adore being in the ocean, wine, running, dogs and my many nieces and nephews. I’ve been involved with the chiropractic profession since 2014, where I trained at the world renowned New Zealand College of Chiropractic. During my University years, I was inspired to become a vitalistic family and animal based chiropractor with a nervous system focus. I’ve gone on to do post University specific training in pregnancy and paediatrics.

Helping people of any age on their unique health journeys, whatever that may be, is always such an honour. My youngest clients have been only hours old (aside from those still in the belly); my eldest has been well into their 90’s. As a member of the rainbow community, I have a strong sense of duty and interest in fellow LGBTQI+ people and their unique needs. I’m really passionate about properly educating my clients on the benefits of cchiropractic care, and normalising young children, pets and the elderly seeing a chiropractor. I’m excited to meet you and your families!

Growing up with a father who was a chiropractor, Chris was raised with chiropractic care and a lifestyle centred on creating and optimising health naturally. He admired his father’s approach to care and involvement in the community and always knew he would follow in his father’s footsteps. In fact, he is one of five siblings, all of whom are chiropractors!

Chris attended RMIT Melbourne, graduating with a degree in chiropractic in 1983. He worked alongside his father and ultimately took over Barham Chiropractic when his dad retired. In addition to caring for patients, Chris has been involved in the chiropractic profession as an educator, author, association officer and member of the board of directors of New Zealand Chiropractic College. He’s passionate about his profession and the people he helps.

With several practice locations throughout South East Queensland, Chris has mentored over 70 chiropractors over the course of his career.

As a new chiropractor, Chris focused on the biomechanical aspects of care. Over his decades in practice, his perspective has transformed into the belief that health is a journey rather than a destination. Helping patients get out of pain is simply the first step in awakening their understanding that long-term health is something they can help create through every choice they make.

Chris is dedicated to helping families feel and function their best through every age and stage of life. Offering care for patients from one day to one hundred years old, the goal for everyone is optimal functionality and wellness.

Chris and his wife Jane, a physiotherapist, have been active in the community for over forty years. They have two kids and three grandkids and enjoy spending time with their family as well as gardening, exercising and reading.

Somewhat more out of the ordinary, Chris breeds thoroughbred racehorses that have run in some of the biggest races in the world. He even received a trophy from the Queen once!
